Handheld PDA devices that run the Palm-OS or Pocket PC/Windows Mobile operating systems have gone beyond just being used to keep track of phone numbers and appointments.  Most PDA's now offer e-mail and internet access using various wireless technologies, and many include integrated cell phones as well.

FileMaker, with the introduction of FileMaker Mobile 8, provides support for both the Palm-OS and Pocket PC, as well as support for Symbol Technologies bar-code scanners.  This enables the creation of handheld applications that can be used in conjunction with desktop or server based FileMaker solutions.

N-Sight also supports more robust handheld databases, including HanDBase, which provides the ability to work with Symbian OS in addition to Palm and Windows Mobile.  Using HanDBase's SyncExchange for ODBC, HanDBase's handheld databases can be synchronized with FileMaker desktop or server applications operating in Windows or Mac OS environments.
