The Tablet PC presents the most versatile and powerful mobile computing option available today.  Running an expanded version of Windows XP or Windows Vista, the tablet PC has the capacity to run any and all software that will work with Windows.  However, the real advantage of the Tablet PC comes in its ability to utilize alternative input sources such as handwriting and speech recognition to execute commands and for data entry, essentially enhancing the role of the traditional notebook PC. 

N-Sight has used FileMaker to custom design several applications for the Tablet PC.   Examples include applications used for property inspections, real estate appraisals, insurance claims processing, etc.  Anywhere large amounts of data need to be collected and/or analyzed in the field are ideal environments for the Tablet PC.

Tablet PC's vs. PDA's - Which to Choose

Whether you use a Tablet PC or a PDA for data collection should first and foremost be driven by the amount of data that has to be downloaded/collected.  PDA's work great when data collection needs are limited.  Once you get more than 50 fields or you need to enter large amounts of free text, the Tablet PC has an edge, and that edge only widens as the number of data fields increase.  (Just imagine trying to get through more than 500 fields of data using a PDA.)

One more benefit of Tablet PC's - because the operating system is a variant of the Windows operating system, any solution developed for the Tablet PC will be able to run on a standard notebook or desktop PC, sometimes with only nominal modifications.
