Using FileMaker on the Web
From its early days, FileMaker has been a web-friendly database. Whether using PHP or XML for Custom Web Publshing, FileMaker's Instant Web Publishing through FileMaker 12, or WebDirect starting with FileMaker 13, FileMaker has been at the forefront of making database usage on the web fast and powerful.
Below are some recent examples of projects that we have been involved with that included using FileMaker's web capabilities.

Medical Service Provider - Automated Insurance Pre-Approval

Our client provides medical equipment incorporating new technologies that, while approved by the FDA and supported by numerous clinical trials in medical journals, are not always approved for payment by insurance companies.
As such, we created a web portal that allows users of the equipment to enter patient data and generate documents that will be used in the insurance approval process. The site is secure and HIPAA compliant while being easy to use.

Music Producer - Historical Music Chart Web Site
Our client was a music producer who had a strong interest in the history of pop music. As such, over the years he had compiled multiple spreadsheets that contained the top 40 pop songs and albums in the U.S. and the U.K. from 1950 forward and wanted to find a way to share those with the world.
We created a FileMaker database that absorbed all his spreadsheet data and then put it online through a web site that we developed. Any visitor to the site could access the database, query it by date and pull up the song rankings for that week, and then scroll backward and forward from that date. It was also searchable by song title and artist. In addition to creating the back end of the database, we also designed the site graphics and created the logo. |
Consumer Products Company - Contract Approval and Processing
Our client, a company in the food business with more than $1.7 billion in annual revenues, needed a method to approve and process sales and marketing agreements its sales representative were presenting to their customers. The approvals needed to be completed by sales managers, who themselves were also engaged in the sales process and, as such, would not have access to a FileMaker client.
Our answer was to use FileMaker's WebDirect capabilities to allow them to log into the database on FileMaker Server via their web browser on the company's intranet and see a list of their actionable items on their screen. They could then drill down to get additional details regarding the agreement and either approve or decline the proposed agreement. Once the agreement is approved by a manager, the system determines if other manager approvals are needed and forwards the record to their home screens if that is indeed the case. Once final approval is obtained, the system automatically sends an email notification to the salesperson so they can proceed to present the approved agreement to their customer. |
Neighborhood Association Web Site - Member Self-Management
This site was developed for a neighborhood association in Atlanta representing more than 1,000 homes to allow its members to pay annual dues, keep up with local events, manage their membership information, sign up and pay for various activities, purchase neighborhood-themed merchandise, notify local security of planned out of town trips, etc.
The site has a FileMaker database as its back end. Homeowners can securely log in using their user name and password to self-manage their demographic information and provide vacation notices to security. They can also indicate privacy preferences for the printed directory that is formatted using FileMaker as well as indicate interests for volunteer opportunities and whether or not they want to be included in mass mailings. |
Not-for-Profit Web Site - Online Employee Management
This web site was designed for an organization that operates multiple summer camps for youths age 7-17. In addition to connecting the organization's registration web site that uses MySQL to their FileMaker database, we created a subweb that allows roughly 500 staff members to register, log in and manage their information as well as receive updates on their assignments, training, etc. supported by a FileMaker database.
