Compatibility Issues with FileMaker and macOS Mojave - RESOLVED

9/26/2018

UPDATE:  It appears that the issues with Mojave and FileMaker 17 have been resolved with the release of FileMaker Pro Advanced 17.0.4 and FileMaker Server 17.0.3.  These  included multiple performance issues with both FileMaker Server and FileMaker WebDirect.

Original Post

We are strongly recommending that any FileMaker user running macOS not install version 10.14 Mojave due to compatibility issues.  This recommendation will remain in place until further notice.

Background:  Several of our clients jumped the gun and installed macOS 10.14 Mojave the day it came out.  Unfortunately, they were among the first to discover that FileMaker does not work well with Mojave, as they were unable to connect to their remotely-hosted databases and experienced crashes.  Following up on these reports, we installed Mojave on one of our MacBooks and confirmed this behavior for FileMaker 17, 16 and 14.  (N.B.: FileMaker 17 and 16 are supposed to be able to work on Mojave, while earlier versions of FileMaker are not supported.)

FileMaker's Comments:  According to FileMaker, FileMaker 17 and 16 are compatible with Mojave, but with known issues.  An update to make them fully compatible has been targeted for no later than December of this year.

Regarding FileMaker Server 17 and 16, FileMaker has acknowledged serious compatibility issues between those two programs and Mojave.  As a result, FileMaker recommends against installing Mojave until updates for FileMaker Server are released.  The updates are expected by the end of November 2018.

I did not see this until I already had gone to Majove. Anything I can do at this point? I am running FileMaker 14.06 and it will not run at all.

And here we are in January 2019, and the script editor and data viewer, two fundamentally important features, are still broken under Mojave in the latest version of FileMaker.

Any updates on this? What are you recommending clients do who are purchasing new Mac laptops being shipped with Mojave? Are you installing the latest version of Filemaker 16 on those client machines or are you now going ahead and installing Filemaker 17.

We just updated this blog post to reflect resolution of the issues that were previously reported. Recent releases of FileMaker Pro Advanced 17 and FileMaker Server 17 appear to be working as expected, so installing fully updated version 17 product should not present a problem.
